Velella velella
a dream of the low regions, rising
An algaenous gathering of imagery, original score, discovered sounds and spoken word.
Velella velella by turns employs direction and drift. It considers where we find ourselves, and where we’re going.
Velella velella, by-the-wind sailor. What consciousness is this - that would take us so close to the edge - that could yet have a change of heart?
Velella velella by Rebecca Sharp was commissioned for Magma Poetry’s Anthropocene issue in 2021. In 2024 it will form part of a new collection that Rebecca is creating as part of her residency with the Centre for Energy and Ethics at the University of St Andrews.
On the score for Velella velella -
"A cluster of edge-blown clarinet tones driven this way and that by serendipity, translated into oceanic depths, tracing reflected constellations..."
