Clerihews are named after their inventor Edmund Clerihew Bentley (born in 1875). The rules are that the poem must:

  • Have four lines
  • Rhyme in couplets (pairs of lines) of AA, BB
  • Use a person’s name in its first line
  • Say something about that person
  • And hopefully make you smile!

Here's a sample:

Once Florence Nightingale
suffered from a lighting fail.
History, unfortunately, does not record
if she actually found the fuse board.
